Waylon

When my daughter was 6 months old I found out I was pregnant again. Things were going well until my 25 week appointment and our lives were turned upside down. At our ultrasound we found out my son had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Long story short, his diaphragm never formed properly which caused his liver to be up in his chest cavity, pushing his heart to the side and making his lungs unable to grow. On a good day the survival rate for CDH is 50/50. We named him Waylon and he was such a fighter. I spent the next few weeks doing anything and everything the Dr’s recommended to do to make sure Waylon was ok. Unfortunately, I went into preterm labor at 32 weeks. Since Waylon’s lungs were unable to grow like they should and then add prematurity, he passed away 30 minutes after birth. My daughter and son ended up being 1 year and 1 week apart…She was/is too young to understand what has happened, but I hope in the future to have resources (like the Special Delivery book) to help explain that she has a brother who is an angel.
